NATURE OF WORK:
Senior Architects perform architectural work involving the full range of professional activities in the planning, design, or technical review of drawings, specifications and estimates for the creation, construction, rehabilitation or restoration of Authority buildings and facilities. On assigned projects, incumbents coordinate with Authority stakeholders as well as in-house and/or consultant engineers providing specialized services to the architectural project.
Senior Architects may specialize in the architectural review of consultants' work and advise and consult with Authority stakeholders concerning the feasibility and acceptability of projects plans, providing advice and guidance on architectural and related matters concerning the program, design, and construction of a project.
ACTIVITIES and TASKS:
Activity: Confers with Authority Division personnel, Headquarters Maintenance personnel and Construction Management personnel to assist with the preparation of project scopes and budgets for projects they identified for inclusion in the Authority's Annual Contracts Program.
TASKS:
1.) Using various methods assists with developing the budget costs for Design, Construction, Construction Inspection and Other miscellaneous costs.
ACTIVITY: Confers with the Bureau Director of the Bureau of Structural and Architectural Design for assigning the Sqaud Leader and
Project Manager for each of the projects in the approved Annual Contracts Program to ensure equal distribution of workloas.
TASKS: For assigned projects, reviews, and evaluates the Authority stakeholders Scope of Work, for the design of new building or the rehabilitation of existing buildings and prepares an Initial Project Proposal - Final Design Recommendation (IPP-FDR) report.
1.) Meets and confers with Authority stakeholders responsible for the project to establish the complete Scope of Work of the project.
2.) Reviews existing facility building plans to obtain drawings of the subject property or of any completed projects with similar architectural problems.
3.) Inspects the project site to make measurements, sketches, photographs, and otherwise documents the actual site condition to aid in developing the preparation of the IPP-FDR.
4.) Determines project feasibility relative to the scope of requirements, the project budget, project design schedule and construction schedule.
5.) Translates the Scope of Work into an architectural program which reflects the project requirements in terms of such factors as space requirements, purpose of project, budget, site limitations, mechanical or electrical requirements, and utilities.
6.) Prepares or directs the preparation of preliminary drawings and supporting information for inclusion in the IPP-FDR.
7.) Places his/her stamp and signature to the IPP-FDR and distributes the report to all Authority stakeholders for their approval and signature.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Good knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of architecture and of developments in the field. Good knowledge of building materials, their function, and physical properties, working knowledge of construction methods, working knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules, and standards regulating the design and construction of buildings, working knowledge of building costs, basic knowledge of structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering as related to buildings, ability to identify architectural elements in building designs for conformance with applicable standards, codes, cost efficiency, program objectives, and for compliance with design requirements, ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing, and ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with Authority stakeholders, technical experts and others.
The Associate University Architect will provide focused leadership relating to architectural design, historic preservation, and overall stewardship of the built campus environment within the Office of Planning, Architecture and Real Estate at The Ohio State University. The Associate University Architect, with strong guidance from the University Design Review Board (DRB), will play an active role in guiding and shaping projects of various sizes and scales across main campus and the regional campuses.
The Associate University Architect will report directly to the Senior Director of Campus Planning and Design and provide support, as deemed necessary, to the Vice President of Planning, Architecture and Real Estate (PARE) and the PARE Campus Planning and Design Studio. Additionally, this position will act as a professional subject matter resource that provides support to all colleges, business units, and associated stakeholders on main campus and the regional campuses. The Associate University Architect will be advisor and work in collaboration with the DRB and Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) directing architectural related projects during design, project review, of construction documents, and be a design resource during construction to meet the goals established.
The Associate University Architect will work closely as member of the PARE Campus Planning and Design team and with other PARE colleagues, the Design Review Board, FDC representatives, and outside consultants/professionals to:
This role will work closely collaborate with FDC to provide architectural and urban design/planning expertise on all project types during all phases of design, and will include an advisory role to FDC during the construction phase. The Associate University Architect will work with the project’s assigned PM to review construction documents for quality, design integrity and consistency with Design Review Board direction and vision. Facilities Design and Construction has responsibility to provide QA/QC throughout the process. During construction, this role provides architectural design guidance to FDC as it relates to issues (affecting design integrity) that arise during the construction process.
This position will act as close advisor, with other members of the Campus Planning and Design team, to oversee and direct the PARE Student Design Studio. This studio is a multi-disciplinary team of students whose core responsibilities are providing graphic support and conceptual/schematic project planning for the Campus Planning and Design team. Additionally, it is expected that the Associate University Architect will maintain and build relationships with peers at other universities through professional affiliations.
