This role will support the Finance Director in supporting the Information Services business from a business/strategic planning perspective as well as managing the integrity of the P&L by providing financial and operational support/analysis. Working with the Finance Director and key stake holders, this role will provide support and guidance regarding the financial drivers of the business in processes such as budgeting, forecasting, month end closes, variance/ad-hoc analysis.

Responsibilities:

Work with business leaders to build and analyze budgets and forecasts – sales forecasting, subscription modeling, and expense management (perform in-depth analyses to demonstrate business projections & deviations from plan)
Serve as internal expert and primary contact for the business’s strategic planning, and financial planning – manage communication of financial information with business leads (Marketing, General Managers, Sales & their teams)
Work closely with Director and business leaders to develop tools and analyses to increase the productivity/profitability of business units
Assist business units with analysis of new initiatives, programs, promotions and other business development opportunities – provide insights into data trends to inform business decisions
Own month-end close process – work with accounting & operations departments to ensure accuracy of month-end reporting, analyze and identify any issues, work to correct those issues, and report to Director regarding results as well as risks and opportunities
Report on financial results and track key metrics/performance indicators against appropriate base comparisons (prior year, budget, reforecast) to inform how business is performing and where risks and opportunities are
Develop ad-hoc reports and tools using Excel and other financial systems to better analyze the business

Requirements:

This position requires a minimum formal education of a Bachelor’s Degree (accounting, business administration, finance, economics)
5+ years of job related experience; work experience in media, particularly with subscription or books business, is a big plus
Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Must have solid experience with accounting fundamentals
Knowledge of and some practical experience with financial reporting and experience working on the month-end closing process
Strong experience with financial modeling
Prior financial systems experience – experience in and comfort level with manipulating large data sets, interpreting data trends and using a multitude of disparate data sources and tools and further create summaries/reports for management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (ability to present analytics and reports in a clear, effective and dynamic manner to senior management as needed)
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong analytical ability, critical thinking and proactive problem solving skills
Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and in team environment

About the role:
Handy is seeking a highly driven Senior Finance Manager to lead financial responsibilities for its expansion teams.

As a key member of our Finance team, you will play an integral role in providing strategic financial advice and maintaining financial discipline for Handy’s highest growth revenue streams. You will work cross-functionally across departments, including product, marketing, sales, operations and CX to provide critical financial support that empowers our business leaders to make sound decisions. You will interface regularly with the executive team at Handy as well as the teams at our sister brands. This is the perfect role for a hungry, analytical team-player who wants to help grow nascent, but very high potential new businesses from the ground up and sees themselves as a future business leader.

You will help devise frameworks, build reporting, and measure results in critical areas of the business, while developing as a future leader of the organization. This role reports to the Senior Director of Finance, with significant partnership with expansion team leaders.

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain the Finance team’s ability to iterate on complex financial models and analyses for our expansion businesses; enable and contribute to effective decision making regarding the revenue growth strategy, cost structure and capital expenditures in order to shape the strategic direction of the businesses
Analyze, interpret and present relevant financial data and key business metrics to senior leadership – partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders at Handy and its sister brands to impact business decisions
Build a transparent financial framework that helps P&L owners identify and strategize additional opportunities for investment and growth
Assist in preparing and coordinating the annual budget and monthly forecasts
Collaborate with other members of Finance and Accounting to prepare and deliver weekly and monthly management reports to key team members
Assist in preparation of materials for external parties
Work on special projects and ad hoc analysis as determined by senior leadership
Own and drive continuous improvements to Finance’s reporting and planning tools – help deepen the financial bridge between Handy and its sister brands

What we’re looking for:

4-6 years of investment banking, private equity, and/or FP&A experience
Proficient in financial analysis, financial modeling and problem-solving
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and projections
Functional knowledge of financial reporting and accounting
Detail-oriented, highly organized and resourceful
Go-getter mentality, a “no job too big or small” attitude
The ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and thrive in an unstructured, fast-moving environment

Reporting to the Director of Budget and Finance, the Finance Manager, in addition to the CUNY Title Overview, will:

Manage day-to-day business operations that may include financial reporting, compliance, development of systems, and review and approval of transactions;

Assist with management of all aspects of Business Office operations with particular focus on the procurement of all goods and services necessary for the School’s operations;

Experience with specifications for bidding and develop Request for Quotes (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP) and Invitation for Bids (IFB);

Knowledge of advanced financial operations principles;

Experience in a public higher education finance office;

Experience with CUNYfirst and State Financial System (SFS);

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills;

Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy; data analysis and problem solving;

Proven experience supporting and collaborating with senior management;

Flexibility and the ability to prioritize workload based on urgency and importance;

Excellent communication skills.
