Key Responsibilities of the Role

To ensure projects are completed on time within budget or with successful attainment of objectives.
Completes specific phases or aspects of the project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans and product testing.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
Prepares interim and completion project reports.
Provide functional and technical support to the factories to minimize production and maintenance problems.
Apply engineering expertise to equipment design, problems solving, and quality improvement.
Participate in committee or task forces where necessary to contribute to company goals.
Support PRC and key support projects as technical advisor or project manager.
In every activity, use the principles of TQM “To do the job right the first time”. This includes establishing requirements and the process maps necessary to meet the customer’s requirements and all things done right the first time.
Promote TQM through actions and communications to all customers (internal and external), conformance to requirements, to provide quality products and services and provide technical solutions/leadership for the reduction in cost of quality.
Development of project scope, justification, and factory/company impact.
Appropriation preparation including cost estimates, savings, and timing plan.
Development and management of cost controls, asset controls and scheduling controls.
Hires and supervises various contractors in the scope of project manager. This may encompass all project areas and total up to 50 people dispersed among distinct trades.
The incumbent must maintain a strong back-up source of technical files, vendors, and manufacturers, and engineering groups in order to respond to needs for new packaging methods or to identify technologies/equipment for application in the packaging area.
Evaluate, plan and implement approved projects in the direction of Engineering, Project Review Committee and/or Management Board.
Cost Reduction/Production Improvement; Participate actively in Company efforts to reduce operational costs and improve finished quality attributes. Develop projects where appropriate to initiate utilization of cost cutting/quality improving technique or equipment.
Analyzing and preparing appropriation request for capital improvement and replacements of inefficient assets, collecting and organizing data for future capital improvements on a five year capital spending budget basis; maintaining and active cost reduction program.
The incumbent must also possess a high level of human relation’s skills to be able to efficiently interact with individuals from varying work disciplines and cultural backgrounds.
Direct and compile capital budgeting; collect future capital project requirements from factory departments and compile into a final five-year capital budget. Control the currently fiscal year budget to ensure that the current factory needs are met as well s assuring that its needs are well positioned for the future.
Analyze and prepare appropriation requests; prepares and financially analyzes all capital and expense appropriation requests. This includes new facilities and equipment for factory operating improvements, capacity increases and replacement of equipment.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school or related field is required
3-5 years of experience or full cycle Project Engineering experience.
Strong background in mechanical and hydraulic systems, packaging methods, and materials, electronics and computer applications, and electrical systems.
Strong communication skills are required for presentations to factory staffs on technical issues or specific project activity.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work to flexible schedule including days, afternoons, midnights, and overtime as needed.

General Duties: Serves as the internal PCC project lead and the customer’s primary interface for the design, procurement, and installation of PCC systems. Engages with the customer throughout the project life cycle to manage post-purchase order scope modifications, overcome execution challenges, and broadly communicate project status and delivery risks. Coordinates core project engineering tasks and integrates PCC technical and support staff capabilities in accordance with established procedures to ensure safety, consistency, efficiency, and quality. Operates as a committed member of the PCC team dedicated to continuous learning and improvement. Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Specific Responsibilities: Drives project delivery and effectively communicates progress through the 3 major phases of the PCC Project Management process: Design, Procurement, and Installation.

Acts as the Single Point of Entry into PCC for the project customer
Masters project requirements to include customer specifications
Develops a Project Management Plan appropriate for the project scope
Maintains regular and recurring customer contact
Secures “out-sourced” engineering disciplines from external resources as necessary
Quickly elevates disputes to the appropriate level for quick resolution
Executes Change Management process
Reports project progress and milestones in accordance with established procedures
Utilizes the Technology Group’s “Design Memo” as a guideline to perform mechanical design including thermal calculations, refractory selection, structural design, and development of general arrangement drawings, P&ID’s, nozzle schedules, fabrication drawings, pipe skid drawings, installation drawings, and installation and operation manuals.
Integrates Process, IC&E, CAD, Engineering, and Procurement groups to orchestrate design and project delivery
Incorporates project specifications into comprehensive scope of work documents that combine both the technical and “flow down” commercial requirements for major equipment contracts.
Coordinates with Project Engineering for the development of mechanical designs including thermal calculations, refractory selection, structural design, and development of general arrangement drawings, P&ID’s, nozzle schedules, fabrication drawings, pipe skid drawings, installation drawings, and installation and operation manuals.
Receives, reviews, and approves vendor documentation
Reviews vendor quotes for technical acceptability and provides feedback to Purchasing
Works with Vendors to ensure timely flow of all Quality Documentation to the customer.
Navigates projects deliverables through required Quality Control events
Leads After Action Reviews after equipment shipping and upon project completion
Gathers customer feedback after equipment shipping and upon project completion
Performs logistical and administrative duties as required to deliver the project on schedule
Maintains and closes out Project Files for historical reference

PROJECT ENGINEER

Air Products

The Advanced Systems Project Engineer position is a broad role with many interfaces, both internal and external to Air Products. This Engineering position will provide the candidate with an opportunity to work closely with customers and requires interface with numerous internal organizations including Sales, Logistics, Product Management, Customer Service and Operations. The role is a part of the North American Customer Engineering organization. The position is responsible for a wide range of technical support to projects, customers, maintenance technicians and sales staff for Advanced Systems, Customer Engineering and the H2fM systems.The primary project focus is on the design, fabrication, installation and startup of Advanced Systems that require high pressure or high flow at customer locations. These applications are in hydrogen, nitrogen, argon, helium, oxygen service. The role also encompasses the ongoing support of equipment that APCI has supplied for various customer industrial gas applications.Typical projects involve compression equipment along with associated controls, piping, and gas storage. These systems supply diverse applications including petrochemicals, refining, manufacturing, alternative fuel applications, and testing. Projects are a combination of engineer-to-order systems that meet the industrial gas needs of our customers as well as product-based systems to provide low cost solutions for various applications.

The successful candidate will work with internal and external customers, suppliers and fabricators in a multidisciplinary role as both a design engineer and overall project manager.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design and manage new Advanced Systems customer station installations or modifications to existing systems from the proposal phase through implementation.
Execution of projects with a cost range of $50,000 – $3,000,000.
Provide engineering support to Air Products’ customers, sales personnel, and the Customer Engineering Maintenance organization.
Prepare scope of work documents detailing system design criteria and customer versus Air Products installation roles and responsibilities.
Conduct site evaluations to ensure compliance with NFPA and local regulations.
Generate installation cost estimates, BOM’s, detailed Equipment layouts, foundation drawings and P&ID’s.
Work with Authorities having Jurisdiction to successfully obtain required permits.
Prepare construction packages containing system details and drawings, budgetary information, safety checklists, and other installation requirements.
Complete project closeout activities, including actual vs. budget cost justification and drawing as-builts.
Participate in the design and development of new product equipment offerings.
Follow all internal work processes for safety, engineering, project management, and operations.
Drive the company culture of Safety, Speed, Simplicity and Self-confidence within the project team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate requires cross-functional engineering experience with a basic knowledge of project development and project engineering. A passion and ability to think creatively, to develop new concepts, and to design completely new systems and technologies is required. Strong technical skills and an interest to apply them are critical to the position. Basic requirements include:
